MYSORE: Visitors to Mysore Zoo from Thursday will get to see five Cheetah cubs. The cubs (two male, three female) born to Maya and Tejas, will be on display after 55 days of intensive care.

Maya had taken 12 hours to deliver the cubs on March 29. The Zoo authorities are making sure that Maya gets nutrition supplements and are feeding her twice a day for better lactation. All the cubs are healthy. Maternal care and neonatal behaviour was monitored through CCTV and only one animal keeper is entrusted to enter the adjacent room to feed Maya.

This is the second time that Mysore zoo has had a Cheetah litter. Last year, Brinda had given birth to one male and two female cubs.

The zoo received two pairs of Cheetahs from Rhino Lion Nature Reserve, Muldersdrift, Broederstroom, South Africa, as a part of an animal exchange programme on March 26, 2011.

They are housed temporarily in a modified leopard enclosure.
