‘Files on PWD projects scam missing’

Officials in the Public Works Department (PWD), who are accused of misappropriating funds to the tune of `600 crore, have told the House Committee that the documents related to the concerned projects are missing.

The committee, consisting of seven members of the Legislative Assembly, is probing the alleged irregularities reported in Magadi and Channapatna taluks  in Ramanagaram district.

On Tuesday, the committee had summoned top officials and some officers seeking details about the projects.

“During the questioning, the officials claimed  that the records pertaining to the projects are missing. These works are related to 2010-12 period. How can they go missing? This is a daylight robbery and some  officials are even accepting their fault,” said one of the committee member.

“The committee has not accepted the explanation of the officials. But we have requested them to provide documents before April 9. By then, the final report will be prepared,” he said.

The committee has also taken congnisance of the department’s internal inquiry report submitted on Saturday.

It held some officials responsible for the alleged irregularities.

The committee also said there is a prima-facie case of showing favours, nepotism and causing loss to the exchequer.
