Customs clearance at BIA gets easier

Express News Service

Passengers travelling via Bangalore International Airport with high value goods can now cut down on waiting time by obtaining export certificates online as part of a new initiative of the Customs Department.

In order to reduce waiting time and to enable faster clearance of courier consignments, Bangalore Customs has introduced smart processes which will provide export certificate forms online as well as provide real time tracking facilities for courier consignees/ importers who have consignments being held up at the Customs.

For passengers who wish to take high value goods with them and bring them back on return, a form can be filled on the website www.bangalorecustoms.gov.in.

The passenger would then email this form, take a hard copy and get it endorsed from the Customs at the airport. Courier consignees/ importers also can feed their Airway Bill Number into the website and get information on queries raised by Customs. Information can then be forwarded through the courier companies without the need for the consignee to visit the airport.

‘First Time in the Country’

“These two initiatives are being attempted for the first time at an Indian airport. We are delighted to have made a time-consuming process simple and more transparent,” said Sandeep Prakash, Commissioner of Customs, Bangalore.

Hari Marar, president of Airport Operations, BIAL,  said, “We are delighted that Bangalore Customs is taking proactive measures to improve customer experience. These new initiatives will bring in greater simplicity, transparency and ease for passengers, importers as well as courier service providers.”
