The new textile park, which will be set up in Yadgir district, will help reduce migration of people from the district to other areas for livelihood, said Textile Minister Baburao Chinchansur.

He told reporters here on Sunday that the  park, on par with international standards, is one of the major projects the Chief Minister wanted to start.

Siddaramaiah’s plan to set up the park came after his visit to China, Japan and Malaysia. Experts from those nations will share expertise in setting up the park. Around `10,000 crore is expected to be invested in the park. Of the targeted 3,300 acres, about 900 acres have been acquired so far.

Chinchansur said the youth in Hyderabad-Karnataka region, especially of Yadgir district, will be given priority in employment at the park. They will be trained and absorbed in the industries to be set up at the park.

Asked whether the state government plans to increase the compensation for the road accident in Belgaum district in which 22 labourers from Surpur taluk were killed, he said `1 lakh was given to the kin of the deceased. “I will speak to the Chief Minister to increase the compensation,” he said.
