Janaki, Kabaddi Star Mamata Among Rajyotsava Awardees

BANGALORE: Veteran playback singer S Janaki, Asian Games gold medal winning Kabaddi team captain Mamata Poojary and NI-MHANS Director P Satish Chandra are among the 59 eminent persons who will be felicitated with the Rajyotsava award on Saturday.

The government has succeeded in keeping the awardees’ number at 59 on the 59th anniversary of State’s formation to honour persons who have made significant contributions to various fiels. The award carries Rs 1 lakh cash, a citation and a gold medal.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will present the awards at a colourful function to be held on Saturday.

Siddaramaiah said the committee constituted to recommend names for this prestigious award had submitted a list of 59 names to the government. 

The committee was given a free hand, he said and added,  “Even I did not recommend any names to the committee.”
