Rs 204.30 Crore Relief for 35 Drought-hit Taluks in 9 Districts

KALABURAGI: The Karnataka government has sanctioned Rs 204.30 crore to 35 drought-hit taluks of nine districts as input subsidy for agriculture and horticulture crop loss for the year 2014-15, under the drought relief fund, sources in the revenue department told Express here on Monday.

The sources said the Karnataka government in its order dated March 28, 2015, (received at the drought affected district offices on Monday) stated that the crop compensation would be deposited directly to the bank accounts of the farmers through RTGS/ NEFT and this input subsidy would be given as per the SDRF/ NDRF guidelines of the Union government.

The Karnataka government submitted a memorandum to the Union government seeking Rs 326.70 crore financial assistance for agriculture and horticulture crop loss due to the drought in 2014-15.

The Centre released Rs 188.61 crore under the National Drought Relief Fund to the state recently. The government added another Rs 12 crore to the amount.

Under the drought relief fund, Bengaluru (Urban) district has been sanctioned Rs 114.44 lakh, Bengaluru (rural) Rs 708.14 lakh, Ramnagar  — Rs 2,130.57 lakh, Kolar — Rs 2,874.73 lakh, Chikballapur — Rs 2,322.44 lakh, Tumakuru — Rs 5,279.74 lakh, Hassan — Rs 755.54 lakh, Kalaburagi — Rs 1,766.54 lakh and Bidar district was given Rs 4,478.05 lakh.

All the five taluks of Bidar district have been declared drought affected and Jewargi, Chincholi and Aland taluks of Kalaburagi district have been declared as drought affected.
