BELAGAVI:Six people from the district, who had gone to Nepal on a tour, returned on Tuesday afternoon.

The group arrived in a Volvo bus from Hyderabad around 12.30 pm.

Speaking to reporters, Mallesh Madiwal, Kaveri Suresh Balagannavar, Irranna Jangannavar and Deepa Jangannavar said they heaved a sigh of relief on leaving Nepal as mild tremors were continuing after the major earthquake on Saturday.

“We had a lucky escape from death as a few boulders rolled down beside us,” they said. It would take a lot of time for them to return to a normal life, they added.

“We spent four hours on a road at Pokra town, which was completely destroyed,” said Kaveri of Ankali village.

She said they were inside a bus at Pokra town when the earthquake struck. “My husband got down from the bus and asked us to come out,” Kaveri said

They saw people dying, buildings collapsing and boulders rolling down mountain slopes. “It was the worst experience and we feel happy we returned safely,” Kaveri said.
