Kite Enthusiasts to Showcase Ethnic Designs at Dubai Fest

MANGALURU:Team Mangalore, a group of kite-flying enthusiasts, has been invited to participate in the three-day Dubai International Kite festival starting on Thursday.

According to a press release from team leader Sarvesh Rao, they will leave for Dubai on Tuesday.

Team Mangalore is known internationally for its ethnic and handmade kite designs. “This time we will showcase our own ethnic creation Vibhishana — a character from the Ramayana. Our ethnic designs, including Garuda, Pushpaka Vimana, Yakshagana and Kathakkali, have received acclaim in countries such as France, Canada, UK, Thailand, Korea, Italy, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka,” Rao said.

The international kite festival is being held at Jumeirah  Beach on the sidelines of the Dubai Shopping Festival, which draws visitors from all over the world.

Team Mangalore has four members — Sarvesh Rao B, Nitin J Shetty, Subhash Pai (MRPL) and Sathish Rao.

In addition to Vibhishana, the team is going to showcase other kite designs such as Yakshagaana, Kathakkali, which they claim is the largest kite in India, and a few designs from their delta devil, bird and bat series.
