Ration Card Applicants Told to Produce Voter ID by March 31

BENGALURU: Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has urged ration card applicants, who have applied for APL and BPL cards, to produce Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) on or before March 31.

Applications of those failing to do so would be dismissed, he replied, in the Council on Monday to a query on BPL and APL cards for beneficiaries by S V Sankhanur of the BJP.

Dinesh said the state government has received 3,82,701 applications for APL cards and 35,40,906 for BPL cards. Of them, 2.09 lakh got APL cards and 16.78 lakh BPL cards. Besides, 2.5 lakh BPL and 47,319 APL cards are ready to be distributed while another 2.97 lakh applications have been rejected, the minister said.

Of the remaining 14.4 lakh applications, 5.05 lakh applicants have submitted their EPIC details and they will get their cards on priority.

Dinesh, however, said Aadhaar cards were not mandatory to get APL and BPL cards. He also said fresh applications for APL and  BPL cards will be issued in the first week of May.

On staff in the Food and Civil Supplies Department, Dinesh said the state government has approved recruitment to 515 posts. “We have asked KPSC to notify and call for these posts. KPSC shall complete the formalities in the next four months,” he added.
