Yathiraju

BENGALURU:The seized hard disk containing child pornography was password protected and only senior IAS officer Kapil Mohan had access to it, an investigating officer said.

The disk was seized in August from a flat owned by a company linked to the officer during a probe into Kapil Mohan’s alleged role cricketing betting.

“Around 250 GB of data was found on the 500 GB disk,” sources said.

Sources said preliminary investigation by the Lokayukta police found that there was prima facie case against Kapil Mohan under the Information Technology Act after they found that only Kapil Mohan had access to  the hard disk.

According to sources, the hard disk contains child pornography, adult bluefilms and cinemas. This apart, the bio-data, academic records, property details of Kapil Mohan and about 200 family photographs captured while they were on a foreign tour, were also found on the disk. About 20 files have details of properties owned by Kapil Mohan, sources said. The disk was purchased four years ago.

“Child pornography films may have been downloaded. There is no doubt the hard disk belongs to Kapil Mohan. Yeshwantpur police have to investigate and register an FIR against Mohan,” sources told Express.

Sources said the Lokayukta police have also seized lockers and bank accounts belonging to Kapil Mohan and his family members. When lockers were opened, they found cash worth crores and gold, sources added.

T R Suresh, DCP (North) said they are yet to start the investigation. Lokayukta police have given only a report and a complaint was registered based on it. They are yet to provide the hard disk which should be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for examination. Only after that can they proceed with the case and take action against the persons involved, he added.
