BENGALURU: The High Court on Saturday directed the Mysuru and Dakshina Kannada District administrations to release commodities that were seized from some traders when they furnish appropriate security, either by way of bank guarantee or other acceptable security.
The petitions were filed by nine wholesale traders from Mysuru and a wholesale merchant from Dakshina Kannada District.
Justice Byrareddy clarified to the authorities that they must release only the permitted level of stored pulses seized from the merchants. He asked the state not to sell the excess quantity seized from the petitioners.
The petitioners are wholesale dealers in various food grains, pulses, edible oil and edible oil seeds.
In a notification, the state government had said traders could store only 500 quitals of pulses. After the notification, officials conducted raids on seized the excess pulses stored by the petitioners and proposed that they will be auctioned.
The petitioners then approached the High Court for relief.
