Express News Service

BENGALURU: Political leaders have assured the Raju Kshatriya and Kunchitiga Vokkaliga communities of including them in the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category.

At a state-level convention of Raju Kshatriya community and commemoration of 507th anniversary of the coronation of king Krishnadevaraya of Vijayanagar empire, at Palace Grounds here on Sunday, state BJP president B S Yeddyurappa said he will do his best to get the community included in the OBC category by taking up their demand with the Centre.

“Presently, Raju Kshatriyas are grouped under BC-2A category. This community is socially, educationally and economically backward. Their long-pending demand for OBC tag deserves consideration and I will try to persuade the Union government in this regard,” Yeddyurappa said in the presence of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Union minister for Planning and Statistics D V Sadananda Gowda.

Rajnath Singh recalled the glorious era of Krishnadevaraya and said the Modi government is trying to emulate the good governance principles of the great king.

Assurance for Kunchitigas too

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra has promised OBC tag for the Kunchitiga community.

Addressing a convention of Kunchitiga Vokkaligas, he said the state cabinet will soon take a decision in this regard and send the proposal to the Union government.

Sadananda Gowda said necessary action will be taken in this regard if the state cabinet takes the decision.
