BBMP Cleared Over Rs 1,000 Crore Pending Bills Through Online Payment System

The BBMP has paid pending bills of Rs 1,139.66 crore to contractors since it implemented the online payment system.

BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has paid pending bills of Rs 1,139.66 crore to contractors since it implemented the online payment system, said Chief Accounts Officer Ramachandra on Thursday. Responding to queries at the BBMP Council meeting, he said bills worth Rs 8,500 crore are pending as of March 2015, and are being cleared.

Of the bills cleared, 3,673 works worth Rs 634.48 crore were taken up using BBMP funds, 950 under state government grants and 118 works worth Rs 56.35 crore under Central grants, he said.

Audit Report: BJP Councillor Padmanbha Reddy listed out several irregularities in BBMP limits, and said officials have “purposefully” ignored the collection of taxes from several premier establishments.

Streetlights: Congress councillor Gunashekar said guidelines specified by the Bureau of Indian Standards were not being followed during the installation of streetlights. He demanded that the tender for streetlights be cancelled and floated again.    

Explanation on Abattoir: Following a report by Express, the councillors sought an explanation from BBMP officials over the construction of a modern abattoir at Harohalli, in Kanakapura taluk. Mayor Manjunath Reddy promised to look into the issue and take necessary steps.
