Anticipatory Bail Granted for Alleged Copyright Violation Case

BENGALURU: A sessions court in the city has granted anticipatory bail to three persons in connection with a copyright violation case. The accused Bhaskar Reddy, representative of Wizcraft International Entertainment Pvt. Limited, Sandeep Sinha, Kavuri Hills, Hyderabad and Rohit Samuel from Bengaluru have been granted bail regarding the case.

Justice B Muralidhara Pai, XLIX Additional City Civil and Sessions Court, granted the anticipatory bail, imposing a condition that they shall be released on bail on executing a bond for Rs. 25,000 each, along with surety for like sum.

The accused have also been asked to appear before the investigating officer on or before February 8 and cooperate for the investigation.

Jalahalli police had registered a case against them based on the complaint filed by Soumya Halder, Law Officer of Phonographic Performance Limited. The complainant alleged that Wizcraft International Entertainment Private Limited, represented by Bhaskar Reddy, in connivance with Sandeep Sinha and Rohit Samuel had organised an event at a hotel and spa in Gokula Extension in city on December 11, 2015. During the event, they allegedly played the copyrighted music of Phonographic Performance Limited in violation of the Provisions of the Copyright Act, 1957. On the basis of the said accusation, the complainant demanded to take appropriate action against the accused.

However, the accused contended that the allegations made against them are completely false and the same has been lodged to harass them.
