Chandraprabha Urs Laid to Rest With Full Honours

MYSURU: Thousands attended the funeral of veteran Congress leader and former minister Chandraprabha Urs, daughter of former chief minister D Devaraj Urs, who passed away on Tuesday. The last rites were conducted with full state honours at Kalahalli village.

As the body was brought to her residence near Double Tank in Lakshmipuram, many Congressmen, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, KPCC president and Home Minister G Parameshwara, Minister V Srinivasa Prasad local legislators, Board and Corporation chairpersons and others paid their last respects. Siddaramaiah, who arrived in a special flight with his cabinet colleagues, drove straight to her residence.

Siddaramaiah recalled her services in Hunsur and as a minister in Ramakrishna Hegde’s cabinet. “She was from a political family and has contributed immensely to the state,” he said.

Parameshwara said Chandraprabha toiled hard to uphold the name and contribution of her father. Co-operation Minister H S Mahadeva Prasad said her demise during the birth centenary of Devraja Urs is a great loss to the party and their family.
