Dr Karisiddappa was chosen based on the search committee report, where a panel of three names were submitted to the Governor late on Friday night. The other two names in the panel were Dr K R Venugopal, principal of University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering, Bengaluru, and Dr Sridhar, the acting Vice-Chancellor of VTU.

The post was vacant since March this year after then V-C H Maheshappa was suspended.
