Father, sons arrested for honour killing of daughter and lover in Karnataka

BELLARY: Ballari district police have arrested a man and his four sons for beating his daughter and her lover to death in an alleged honour killing at Hampasagara village in Hagaribommanahalli taluk here.
 
The victims were identified as Reshma Banu (20) a final year student at a college in Hagaribommanahalli and K Nagaraj (18) PUC-II student.
 
Police arrested Babu Saheb and his four sons Razak, Aran, Shabbir and Ibrahim on Saturday night. Police inquiry found that Nagaraj and Banu were found in her house on the evening of March 24.
 
Angered by this, Babu Saheb and his sons took the couple to a plantation near their house where they severely beat Nagaraj. Banu was also hit when she tried to rescue her boyfriend, and died on the spot.
 
Nagaraj was packed in a gunny bag and thrown near G Kodihalli village. He succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital in Manipal on March 31.
 
Meanwhile, Banu's parents had performed her last rites stating that she had died of a heart attack.
 
The incident came to light when villagers of G Kodihalli had noticed Nagaraj lying in a pool of blood under a tree on March 25. The Aadhaar card kept in his pant pocket revealed that he hailed from Chitradurga district.
 
Superintendent of Police Chethan R told the New Indian Express that an inquiry was on.
