MANGALURU: After over seven months, the city police have finally cracked the Karthik Raj murder case, with the arrest of the victim’s sister Kavyashree. Karthik (26), son of a BJP leader, had been hit with an iron rod on October 22, 2016, and succumbed to his injuries the next day.

Central Crime Record Bureau police on Saturday arrested Kavyashree (25). Police also arrested her colleague Goutham (26) of Kuttar, Santhosh Nagar and his brother Gourav (19), engineering student.

Mangaluru Commissioner of Police M Chandra Sekhar said that following a misunderstanding between the siblings over some family issue, Kavyashree reportedly had decided to eliminate Karthik. Kavyashree came in contact with Goutham, her colleague in the private hospital where she worked.

Goutham, who was constructing a house in Kondana, had fallen into debt. Kavyashree, reportedly taking advantage of Goutham’s financial problems, lured him with an offer of Rs 5 lakh to murder Karthik. Goutham decided to take the help of his brother Gourav and murder Karthik when he stepped out for his regular morning jogging.

Goutham and Gourav allegedly bludgeoned Karthik on October 22. Chandra Sekhar remained tight-lipped when asked whether Kavyashree had an illicit relationship with Goutham.
