BENGALURU: As the controversy over the death of a person continued to evoke violent protests in Honnavar of Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Dinesh Gundu Rao said that BJP was resorting to political violence for electoral benefits.

"BJP, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal are creating strife and promoting violence along the entire coastal belt of Karnataka. Considering the statements by BJP MP Pratap Simha and BJP leader Eshwarappa, it is clear that the agenda of the party is to create a communal disturbance, peddle lies and instigate one community against each other," he said.

Honnavar town in Uttara Kannada district has been tense after the body of a youth was fished out from a lake. "BJP and its leaders have planned meticulously to generate such violence. In the past too, the party leaders have lied to the people to create communal strife," he said, quoting incidents of riots in Dakshina Kannada and Chikkamagaluru district in the recent past.

Earlier, speaking about the proposed Financial Resolution and Deposit Insurance (FRDI) Bill 2017, he said that if the Bill is passed it will destroy the little confidence people have with banks. Criticising the bail-in clause of the Bill, he said that safety features of deposits made by people has been withdrawn at the cost of common citizens, to benefit banks from going bankrupt, he added.
