BENGALURU: A judge who sent BJP leader and former chief ministr B S Yeddyurappa and several other ministers to judicial custody has been elevated to the Karnataka High Court.

N K Sudhindra Rao was sworn in as an additional judge of the High Court along with Dr H B Prabhakara Sastry by chief justice chief justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee today.

Judge Sundhindra Rao previously served as a special judge in the Lokayukta Court, and sent former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, former ministers Katta Subramanya Naidu, S N Krishnaiah Shetty and several high-profile persons to judicial custody in a case relating to illegal denotification of land acquired by the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA).

Prior to this latest assignment, Judge Sudhindra Rao was the registrar (recruitment) at the High Court and Judge H B Prabhakara Sastry was the presiding officer of the Karnataka State Transport Appellate Authority.

With the appointment of Sudhindra Rao and Prabhakara Sastry, the strength of judges in the Karnataka High Court has increased to 32. That still leaves 30 vacancies on the bench. The sanctioned strength of the High Court is 62.
