Solar eclipse: astrologer advises caution

With solar eclipse set to occur on Sunday, astrologer from the city S K Jain said the period around eclipses is marked by considerable political turmoil and cautioned people against undertaking major work on such days.

The eclipse will occur between 5.40pm and 11.05pm IST and will be visible in parts of South America and Africa. It probably won’t be visible in India.

Jain said ‘Amavasyas’ or new moon days are marked by accidents, natural disasters, war-like situations and high tides in the ocean. He claimed such events occurring in the past were proof of the harmful effect eclipses have like the kidnap of Kannada actor Dr Rajkumar by Veerappan.

“Jewellery shops also remain shut during Amavasyas as they are inauspicious,” he said.
He advised people not to schedule important events, visit temples if possible or pray at home, carry out good deeds and take a bath after the eclipse.
