BENGALURU: The second round counselling/seat selection scheduled by Karnataka Examinations Authority for undergraduate engineering courses is likely to be a futile exercise.
The first round of seat allotment for medical and dental seats is yet to be done and the medical seat aspirants who opted for engineering seats have not surrendered or cancelled the seats. Any change in figures of engineering seats availability for the second round is hence unlikely.
A recent schedule released by KEA says the first round for medical seats will be held on July 25 and the second round for engineering on July 17.
Many parents and candidates have requested the KEA to postpone the scheduled second round of engineering seat allotment.
“The second round of counselling on July 17 will be pointless. It would be better if the government postpones the second round for engineering candidates,” said a parent.
A candidate added, “If the KEA conducts the second round even before the first round of medical seat allotment, then engineering seat aspirants will be forced to participate only in the extended second round.”
The seat allotment for Ayush courses has not yet come and the counselling for medical and dental courses is also not over. Even B.Pharma and D Pharma first round is yet to be conducted. Aspirants of all these courses have blocked engineering seats.
When contacted, KEA officials said, “The date for second round has already been postponed once. So, we need to discuss with the higher officials again,” said an official of KEA.

Monday was the last date for registration to undergraduate medical seats. Over 56,000 candidates registered to opt for the seats.
