Kolar MLA Varthur Prakash’s wife dies, dengue suspected

Shyamala R Prakash, wife of Kolar MLA Varthur Prakash, died of suspected dengue at the MS Ramaiah Memorial Hospital here at 9 am on Wednesday.

BENGALURU/KOLAR: Shyamala R Prakash, wife of Kolar MLA Varthur Prakash, died of suspected dengue at the MS Ramaiah Memorial Hospital here at 9 am on Wednesday. She was 35.
She is survived by her husband and three children -- Tejas, Bharath and Nitin.
Shyamala was hospitalised on Monday and was initially diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis with dehydration, sepsis with septic shock, acute kidney injury, diabetes mellitus type II, Hypertension with hypothyroidism.

Dr Prakash Kumar, National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme in his report, said, “She was tested for dengue with a rapid test kit and was found to be NS1 and IgM positive, IgG Weak positive. However, the results of rapid tests are not confirmatory.”
As per the death summary given by Ramaiah Hospital, the death was due to refractory shock and sepsis with multi organ dysfunction syndrome, viral hemorrhagic shock, diabetes mellitus type II, hypertension, hypothyroidism and obstructive sleep apnoea.  

Following the death, hundreds of supporters of the MLA, Congress leaders and workers rushed to Varthur and paid their last respects to Shyamala.As of Wednesday, the BBMP reported 1,900 confirmed dengue cases since January 1 this year as per data from private hospitals. As per official records, there have been five deaths in the state and 3,887 confirmed dengue cases. In Kolar, there have been 136 confirmed Dengue cases.
