BENGALURU: Rejoicing over the state government’s announcement of scrapping the Bengaluru steel flyover project, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday said it happened due to the recent Karnataka bribegate diary case.

“The first victim of the diary disclosure is Bangalore city steel bridge project… After-effects of the diary disclosure forced the state government to drop the project in their own interest,” BJP leader S. Prakash told ANI.

Prakash further said the disclosures in the diary exposed the government which forced it to discontinue the project.

“There was allegation of large-scale corruption in project. A project which was not desired by the people of Bengaluru was foisted upon us. Recently, leaked diary clearly exposed a 65 crore kickback paid on this account. Even in the past, several activists, Bengaluru lovers had opposed this project steadfastly. Several agitations were held. People were made aware about the ill-effect of the project. Ultimately, the government had to bow before the will of the Bengalurians,” he said.

The Karnataka Government yesterday scrapped the project. Bengaluru Development Minister K. J. George announced the cancellation.
