Mangalore Port Trust authorities rush Ukranian sailor to hospital after he suffered stroke at sea

MANGALURU: New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) authorities on Saturday rescued an Ukranian sailor after receiving a distress message for medical attention via e-mail from the Master of MT Flagship Orchid.

Following the message, the authorities launched a tug to retrieve the sick sailor Sergiy Nalyvayko, who had suffered a partial stroke. According to the Master of the ship, there was a medical emergency for Nalyvayko (40) after the stroke left him unable to use the left part of his body.

MT Flagship was passing through Mangaluru on its way from Singapore to Sikka in Gujarat. The master also said the ship would reach New Mangalore Port limit after midnight.

New Mangalore Port authorities responded to the distress call and arranged Port tug for medical evacuation. The Patient was successfully evacuated and hospitalised at AJ Hospital. Sergiy Nalyvayko is under observation and is stable.
