Parvathamma, wife of late legendary Kannada actor Rajkumar, passes away at 78

Parvathamma, (78), wife of late Kannada actor Dr Rajkumar, was suffering from respiratory problems and kidney-related ailments due to old age, and had recently been admitted to M S Ramaiah hospital.

BENGALURU: Parvathamma Rajkumar, the 78-year-old Kannada film producer and wife of actor Dr Rajkumar, died of cardiac arrest at M S Ramaiah Hospital in Bengaluru early on Wednesday.

Living under the shadow of the charismatic Rajkumar, Parvathamma carved a niche for herself in the film industry, producing over 80 films. She was the backbone of her husband, who she married at 13, and helped shape his career.

Parvathamma, who suffered from breast cancer, was hospitalised on May 14 following health complications. Her three sons Shivarajkumar, Raghavendra and Puneeth were by her side when the end came at 4.30am. She is also survived by two daughters.

Parvathamma’s eyes were donated to the Dr Rajkumar Eye Bank of Narayana Nethralaya. Several dignitaries, including CM Siddaramaiah, former CM S M Krishna and others, paid their respects.
