BENGALURU: An integrated home automation system that can be remotely controlled from a smartphone has been developed by Wipro, and it reportedly costs a fifth of such existing systems. Wipro Consumer Care & Lighting has launched Wipro Z Nxt, an integrated home automation solution. This enables the user to control the entire household from any smart device from anywhere in the world. In addition, the system can be installed without having to replace the existing switches and wires within the house.

The user can operate lighting, air-conditioners, geysers, curtains, safety accessories, IP cameras, music control, etc. All electrical appliances can be controlled from a single app on an Android or an IoS device, a remote or a wall-mounted LCD device and through voice control, by multiple users. The system also allows keyless door entry by enabling remote operation of the door locks.

Wipro Z Nxt uses wireless Z wave technology which has advantages over existing wired and other retrofit solutions. Sanjay Gupta, Senior Vice-President and Business Head - Consumer Lighting and Switches at Wipro said the main advantage is that the system can be installed without changing any wiring in a home. “It can be installed in only 4-5 hours, and costs about Rs 2 lakh for a 3-BHK home. In comparison, existing systems cost `10 lakh for a 3-BHK,” he said.
