Karnataka to go the Israeli way for irrigation

BENGALURU: The state has decided to implement an Israeli model irrigation facility in some districts of the state. The model will be replicated in lands under the cultivation of both agriculture and horticulture crops.

A total of Rs 300 crore-Rs 150 crore each for agriculture and horticulture departments — have been allocated in the budget for implementation of the model on a total of 40,000 hectares (98,800 acres) of land. The state has selected 5,000 hectares of dry land each in Kolar, Chitradurga, Koppal and Gadag districts to take up agricultural crops and 5,000 hectares each in Karwar, Tumakuru, Yadagir and Haveri districts.

H D Kumaraswamy said adapting the Israeli model of irrigation will “protect the crops of farmers and make their lives better.” He had visited the country last year and studied the farm practices in the country.
