MADIKERI:Madikeri has been in darkness without electricity since Sunday. In some extensions the supply was cut off for three days. Heavy rain has led to uprooting of trees in many parts of the town, damaging infrastructure. The officials fear that restoration of power supply may require more time. CESC assistant engineer Sampath said heavy wind and rain have made work difficult for linemen.
Deputy Commissioner Shree Vidya had announced holidays for schools and anganwadis in Madikeri and Virajpet taluks on Monday. The roof of a building was blown away due to heavy rain in Madikeri. The police department has stopped vehicular movement on some of the roads.
A car capsized due to heavy rain and toppled towards an estate fence from the main road near Kutta. Four from Kerala travelling in the car got minor injuries. Another car was stuck in the water in Fort premises at Madikeri. Locals helped to lift the car which belonged to a person from Somwarpet.The fort premises is flooded.
Meanwhile, the farmers in Maggula village near Virajpet had left the paddy seedlings in the paddy field as they could not transplant them due to heavy rain. A herd of four elephants ruined this seedlings and afterwards they destroyed the banana plants nearby. The farmers are desperate by this attack adding to the affect due to calamities. Chettalli-Sunticoppa road was blocked due to fall of a huge tree on a bus shelter at Kandakere
Intriguingly, Kolakei villagers have have planned to cover the animals by plastic bags on their back and will leave free for grazing to protect them from incessant rains and caring for them in the downpour. In Kadanuru village the paddy fields of farmers are completely inundated.

Total rainfall this year is 2,128.45 mm which is 1,258.9 mm more compared to last year’s figure. In Madikeri thaluk highest rainfall is recorded. The total rainfall is 2,934.36mm, which is 1,730.96 mm more than the last year.
