Bengaluru police on Friday arrested six persons, including businessmen and a college student, who were allegedly involved in selling wild animals’ skin and horns, from Uttara Kannada district.

KARWAR : Bengaluru police on Friday arrested six persons, including businessmen and a college student, who were allegedly involved in selling wild animals’ skin and horns, from Uttara Kannada district. 

According to sources, Mahalakshmi Layout police arrested two persons — Manjunath Ratnakar Naik of Sirsi and Krishna Ganappa Naik of Honnavar — who were selling leopard skin at Mahalakshmi Layout police station limits on Thursday and booked them under the Wildlife Protection Act.

During investigation, police learnt that a few businessmen and others of U-K district are involved in this case. Police rushed to Sirsi and arrested six others  and seized one deer skin, six horns of deer and sambar.

Bengaluru police arrested a resort owner Uday Ram Naik of Sirsi, Uday Gangadhar Raikar, Mahendra Hegde, Manjunath Naik, Raghavendra Poojary and Sunil Naik, and took them to Bengaluru.

Eight people from U-K district, who were involved in wildlife poaching and selling skin, were arrested.
It is said that these eight people were involved in killing and selling of wildlife.
