BENGALURU: Income Tax Department employees have threatened to stop taking part in surveys or checks from August 1. This comes after the Central Board for Direct Taxes refused to fulfil the demands made by employee organisations, who will boycott Income Tax day celebrations scheduled today.
I-T employees under Joint Council of Action who staged a protest alleged that the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) have failed to convene a Departmental Promotion Committee meeting and promote officials for the past one year. “Moreover, despite record collection of taxes, around 40 per cent of the posts are lying vacant burdening the workforce. Higher officials have not even notified the recruitment rules required to fill these vacancies,” one of the protestors said.
K R Narayana, president of Income Tax Gazetted Officer’s Association said that employees will not take part in any surveys or checks until their demands are fulfilled. “Despite repeated requests from over a year, CBDT has ignored our pleas,” he said.
