KALABURAGI: The Legislative Council polls from the Northeast Graduates constituency received good response on Friday, recording 70.13% voting in Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal and Ballari districts, and Harapanahalli taluk of Davangere district. Ballot boxes from all the six districts and Harapanahalli taluk  are expected to reach Gulbarga University by Friday midnight, and these will be kept in the strongroom under high police security. Counting of votes will be held here from 8 am on Tuesday.

Though Kalaburagi district has the highest number of voters, it recorded the lowest turnout. This can be partly attributed to the fact that none of the political parties fielded candidates from the district. Ten candidates, including Chandrashekhar Patil from Congress, K B Srinivas from BJP, N Pratap Reddy from JD(S) and Vatal Nagaraj from Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha, are in the fray.
