ISRO offers Li-ion tech  transfer to industry

ISRO has called for Request for Qualification (RfQ) to transfer its indigenously developed technology to manufacture Lithium-ion cells to the Indian industry for use in electric vehicles.

BENGALURU: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has called for Request for Qualification (RfQ) to transfer its indigenously developed technology to manufacture Lithium-ion cells to the Indian industry for use in electric vehicles.

One of ISRO’s major centres, Thiruvananthapuram-based Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), is offering to transfer the in-house developed Li-ion cell technology to competent Indian industries on non-exclusive basis to establish Li-ion cell production facilities in India.This initiative is expected to enable zero-emission policy of India and accelerate the development of indigenous electric vehicle industry.  
Towards the transfer of Li-ion cell technology, an RfQ to qualify and shortlist suitable industries in India is available on VSSC, ISRO and NITI Aayog websites.

In March this year, ISRO entered into a Technology Transfer Agreement with Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) to transfer the technology for manufacture of space grade version of these Li-ion cells.
