CHITRADURGA: A final-year ayurveda medical college student committed suicide after rumours about her alleged relationship with a lecturer started doing the rounds. The deceased has been identified as Nikitha (23), a student at Raghavendra Ayurveda Medical College in Maladihalli. She was doing her internship.

Nikitha's father, Umashankar GN of Basava Layout of Holalkere, in his complaint, alleged that his daughter had told him about the rumours about her relationship with her lecturer Dr Raju. Umashankar said he had told her to disregard them and focus on her studies.

Umashankar stated that his daughter had a good relationship with Dr Raju that was falsely construed as a relationship by the wife of Dr Raju and her friends.

On April 1, Nikitha hanged herself from the ceiling of her house. The police said Nikitha has left a death note in which she blamed the wife of Dr Raju, Nisha Raj, and several students for her death.

Holalkere police have registered a complaint against six people, including Nisha Raj.
