West Bengal man beaten, stripped in Bengaluru

The gang assaulted him with cables and leather belts, suspecting him of stealing two mobile phones, according to police sources.

BENGALURU: A 10-member gang assaulted a 25-year-old man from Darjeeling after stripping him and tying his hands and legs at a men’s paying guest (PG) facility in Indiranagar on Tuesday around 1.30 am.

The gang assaulted him with cables and leather belts, suspecting him of stealing two mobile phones, according to police sources.

Man tortured on suspicion of stealing mobile phones

Rai came to Bengaluru four years ago and worked as a waiter at a popular brewery and resto bar on 100-Foot Road in Indiranagar. He quit his job two months ago and took the paying guest accommodation 10 days ago. The accused also live in the same PG and work in a bar and restaurant in Indiranagar.

Mobile phones of two of the accused identified as Chan Ko and Bishal Suresh were stolen from the PG. Suspecting Rai of stealing them, they reportedly tortured him along with others.

“After stripping Rai, the accused assaulted him in his room on the 5th floor of the PG facility. They later tied his hands and legs and threatened to kill him if he did not return their mobile phones. Though Rai pleaded that he did not steal their phones, they assaulted him with cables and leather belts. They also tried to strangle him with a cable.

After the accused went to their rooms, Rai, who suffered bleeding injuries, informed his relatives. With the help of his friend in the PG, he got admitted in a nearby hospital. Paras, Bhuvan, Santu, Rana and Madhav are the other accused. Some of them have been arrested,” said a police officer.

The police recorded Rai’s statement in the hospital. A case of attempt to murder under Section 109 of BNS has been registered against the accused.
