KOCHI: The wordy duel between Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan and CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan is once again simmering with the former on Monday terming as “most prestigious” the Munnar eviction drive and lambasting the critics, who have termed the drive as a failure.

“The eviction drive has been successful. It has been a prestigious project of the state government.

We have evicted encroachers from about 16,000 acres of government land. For all these years, the bigwigs have been utilising the land. No government has taken an initiative to evict them so far. It is absolutely unfair for anybody to criticise the drive,” Achuthanandan told reporters here.

Pinarayi Vijayan had criticised the Munnar task force, stating that its activities had brought shame to the LDF Government. He had said that the task force, which had been assigned with the duty of evicting the large-scale encroachers, deceived the government.
