IRINJALAKKUDA: Koodiyattom exponent Ammannur Parameswara Chakyar died at his residence here on Saturday night. He was 93.

The cremation was held at 3.30 pm on Sunday. He is survived by sons Kalamandalam Raman Chakyar and Parameswara Chakyar.

Elder brother of the late Ammannur Madhava Chakyar, Parameswara Chakyar was a stickler to tradition. Ever since his debut in 1929, he had never performed outside the temple precincts. His performance as Hanuman in Anguliyankam had been in a class of its own and it was documented by Sangeet Nataka Akademi, Delhi, many years ago.

An outstanding teacher, his disciples include Muzhikkulam Kochukuttan Chakyar and Ammannur Kuttan Chakyar.

Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University Vice-Chancellor K G Poulose placed a wreath on behalf of Education Minister M A Baby.
