KOZHIKODE: To supply milking machines at a discounted rate to milk farmers in the region, Milma has taken the Malabar region dealership of the low-cost De Laval Milking Machine.

The single-bucket machine that can milk a cow in six minutes will be provided at Rs 53,000 and the double-bucket machine that can milk two cows in six minutes will be made available at Rs 73,000.

Dr George Thomas, co-ordinator of Farm Support of Milma, said farmers could save Rs 5,000 by buying these machines from Milma. For a small dairy farm with an average daily production of 20 to 30 litres, milking is a major area of concern.

Malabar Milma will also arrange bank finance for producers for buying the milking machines,” Thomas said.
