Bannurmath new CJ of Kerala HC

KOCHI: Justice S R Bannurmath, seniormost judge of Karnataka High Court, was on Saturday appointed as Chief Justice of Kerala.

Justice J B Koshy, Acting Chief justice of Kerala, has been appointed as Chief Justice of Patna.

Born on January 23, 1948, Justice Bannurmath was enrolled as an advocate on July 28, 1973. He practised in the High Court of Karnataka and the Supreme Court before he was appointed as an additional judge of the Karnataka High Court on June 11, 1997 and permanent judge on June 3, 1999.

Justice J B Koshy, born on May 13, 1947, obtained post-graduate (LL M) degree in Mercantile Law, including Law of Contract, from Kerala University.

He was enrolled as advocate on October 12, 1968, and practised in the High Court at Ernakulam, Labour Court, Industrial Tribunal and CEGAT in Constitutional Law, Industrial Law, Customs, Central Excise matters etc.

He had worked as standing counsel for many Central and State Government undertakings and private sector companies like Tata Tea Limited and Hindustan Lever Limited before he was elevated as permanent judge of the Kerala High Court on January 17, 1996.

He has been the Executive Chairman, Kerala State Legal Services Authority.
