KOLLAM: Noted film director Adoor Gopalakrishnan has said that the new wave film movement in Malayalam is indebted to producer K.Ravindranathan Nair.
Speaking at the function to present the J.C.Daniel Award to K.Ravindranathan Nair here on Thursday, Adoor said that Ravindranathan Nair was the only producer of his films as he had never directed films for other producers. Ravi had never tried to interfere in the direction of the films though he was spending money for the production. “Ravi is the only producer of his kind in the country who never seeks profit for his films,’’ Adoor said.
He said that it was a great fortune for him to have worked work with a producer like Ravindranathan Nair.
Presenting the Award, Cultural Minister M.A.Baby stressed the need for the society supporting good cinema.
City Mayor N.Padmalochanan presided over the function.
Kollam District Panchayat president K.Somaprasad released `Cinema - Art and Capital’, a book on Ravindranathan Nair authored by Neelan and published by the Kerala State Chalachithra Academy by handing over a copy to P.K.Gopan.
KSFDC chairman K.G.George and ‘Kerala Sabdom’ managing editor B A Rajakrishnan offered felicitations.
Academy vice-chairman V K Joseph welcomed the gathering and secretary K S Ravi proposed a vote of thanks.
