THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: All-Kerala State Teachers Union (AKSTU) has called on the Government to protect all teachers who are now in service.
AKSTU general secretary N. Sreekumar and treasurer R. Sarathchandran Nair told a news conference that on an average there is a fall of 80,000 students in government and aided schools every year. As a result, around 2000 teachers face the threat of losing jobs every year, he said.
He said teachers who had been appointed in aided schools after July 14, 1997, are not covered under protection.
The teachers are not responsible for the fall in the number of students. The decline in population also had contributed to the decline in the number of students, he said. The AKSTU leaders demanded appointment of art and physical education teachers in all schools, irrespective of the number of students.
