THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Amid high drama gangsters Omprakash and Rajesh alias Puthenpalam Rajesh were brought to the Poojappura Central Prison here on Wednesday evening. The duo will be produced in the Vanchiyoor court on Thursday. The police will seek their custody for interrogation in connection with the Paul Muthoot George murder case.

The two gangsters were brought from the Palayamkottai Central Prison in Tirunelveli by the local police as per the instruction of the Tirunelveli magistrate court where the two surrendered on Tuesday.

The city police had earlier submitted a production warrant against the two. Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner M R Ajith Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police Jolly Cheriyan and other senior police officers accompanied the gangsters from Tirunelveli in a van of the Tirunelveli police.

Following allegations that the police were deliberately keeping the gangsters from press photographers, senior police officers directed the police party to allow the lensmen to take photographs and the two were presented before the cameramen once they reached the Poojappura Central Prison. But the police ensured that a 'safe distance' was maintained between the media persons and the gangsters so that the latter did not speak to the media.

Omprakash and Rajesh were arraigned as the 15th and 16th accused respectively in the case pertaining to the Paul George murder. The charge against them is that they tried to destroy evidence in the case by taking away the Ford Endeavour involved in the murder.

A detention order issued by the Thiruvananthapuram District Collector under the Goonda Act is pending against the two who are involved in several criminal cases, including murder.
