All set for Vijayadasami fete

GURUVAYUR: Elaborate arrangements have been made for Vijayadasami celebration at the temples here. Special poojas and rituals were performed at the Idatharikathukavil Bhagavathy temple.

The placing of textbooks for pooja was performed at the koothambalam of the Sree Krishna Temple on Saturday. Hundreds thronged the temple for the ritual of placing holy books and educational books. A few books of the Guruvayur Devaswom were also kept at the Navarathri Mandapam in the Koothambalam.

The temple othikkans will perform Saraswati pooja on these books till Vijayadasami Day and the books will be returned on Vijayadasami to the people concerned.

Ezhuthiniruthu ritual at the Sree Krishna temple will be held at the first floor of the oottupura after the morning siveli. The members from 13 keezhsanthi illams attached to the temple will initiate the children to the world of letters on Vijayadasami Day on Monday. The Navarathri celebration at Mammiyoor Siva temple, Perumthatta Siva temple, Chowalloor Siva temple, Venkitachalapathy temple and Paluvai Mahavishnu temple will also conclude with Ezhuthiniruthu ritual on Monday.

Record hundi collection The hundi counting at the Sree Krishna temple here on Saturday registered an an all-time record collection. Rs 3.09 crore was collected from the hundies of the temple as kanikka for the Malayalam month of Chingam. The previous highest collection at the temple was Rs 2.66 crore. With one more day of counting, the hundi collection may cross Rs 3.25 crore.

The collection counting is conducted under the strict supervision of Devaswom administrator C V Ratheesan, managing committee member A V Chandran and temple deputy administrator P V Somasundaram in the counting hall of the temple. In Chingam, the temple witnessed heavy flow of devotees with a record of 1,048 marriages and choroonu ritual for around 1,1000 babies.
