KOCHI: The counter affidavit filed by the Poonjar royal family in the Munnar land issue will come up for the consideration of the Kerala High Court Division Bench today, July 22.

The counter affidavit was filed requesting the court to hold that the royal family is the true owner of the land in the issue. KDH Plantation Company Pvt Ltd had earlier approached the court in the Munnar check dam issue, following which the court had directed the royal family to file its counter.

In the counter affidavit, R Kanakamani Thampuratty of Poonjar Kovilakam, said the averment in the petition by KDH that "the check dam and water sources are situated in land belonging to the petitioners are incorrect. She pointed out that the plantation company is lessee of the land only. The Poonjar family had come out in the open demanding the State Government and KDH produce before the court the lease agreement reportedly given by the Poonjar chief in 1877, as claimed by the government.
