SABARIMALA: Measures have been taken to purify the Bhasmakulam pond at Sannidhanam where pilgrims take the customary bath. For this, a new purification plant, which works round-the-clock, began functioning near the pond.

Calcium soda, poly aluminium chloride, chlorine and poly electrolyte are used for purification of the water in the pond.

In addition,  the silt formed in the pond will be removed in every two hours.

To create awareness on keeping the pond clean, boards and hoardings were put up alerting the pilgrims against the use of oil, soap and shampoo.

Placing ‘saram’ at Saramkuthi

Pilgrims in large numbers inadvertently  place ‘saram’, the customary offering by first-time pilgrims,  at Sabaripeedam, instead of Saramkuthi, on the trekking path between Marakoottam and Nadapandal. The contractor, who sells ‘saram’ at Sabaripeedom is creating a feeling among pilgrims for placing sarams at the enclosure near the ‘kanikka’ here.

The Devaswom authorities are yet to put up  a board or hoarding alerting the pilgrims to place the ‘saram’ at Saramkuthi, instead of Sabaripeedom.
