MALAPPURAM: Believing in the phrase a single spark can start a wildfire, frustrated activists of the CPM in almost all the panchayats in the district are set to form their own organisations on the lines of the new Marxist outfit Elamkulam Communist Group. The formation of the Elamkulam Communist Group was announced on Sunday at Elamkulam here. It is learnt that the leaders of the new organisation— led by Idathupaksha Ekopana Samithi —are on a mission to bring unsatisfied activists in Left organisations under one roof.

According to V P Vasudevan, a leader of the Elamkulam Communist Group, the dissent in Elamkulam is not an isolated one, similar developments are going to take place in other parts of the district. “Discussions regarding the formation of new outfits in Puzhakattiri and Irimbiliyam panchayats have been completed,” he added.

It is learnt that a group of CPM men in Mankada region are set to join the new group with the support of Manhalamkuzhi Ali.

“The new Communist group will extend its activities to all parts of the district, including CPM strongholds. The CPM has split in many villages in the district with the official group left with only a handful of members and the rebel ranks swell,” Vasudevan said. “Not only the CPM, other Left organisations also are divided as the rebels are forming their own committees to challenge the official group in the party.” “As in Onchiyam and Shoranur where Marxist rebels formed organisations, the comrades here also are unhappy with the way the party is acting,” he added.

It was Revolutionary Marxist Party leader T P Chandrashekharan who officially announced the formation of the Elamkulam Communist Group at a function at Elamkulam, the birth place of EMS Namboothirippad, on Sunday.

State general secretary of Idathupaksha Ekopana Samithi M R Murali, Dr Azad, K Kunhikanaran, G Mohankumar and others attended the function.

“The announcement of the new group has nothing to do with the forthcoming Assembly election in the state as election is not our aim,” said Vasudevan.
