CHOTTANIKKARA: Thousands of woman devotees will throng the Chottanikkara Devi temple to get a glimpse of Goddess Chottanikkara Amma on the most auspicious Midhuna Lagnam which begins at 2.30 p.m on Friday.

It is believed that saint Villwamangalam Swamiyar once visited the Chottanikkara temple in the Malayalam month of Kumbham and it was in the Midhuna Laghnam that he got the holy Darsan of Chottanikkara Amma. Cochin Devaswom Board, with the support of other departments, including KWA, Health, Fire and Rescue Services, PWD and the police, has completed all the arrangements at the temple. Ernakulam Rural SP Vikram inaugurated the police control room on Thursday.

"The Devaswom Board has built temporary shelters for the devotees," executive officer of Chottanikkara Devaswom Vidyasagar said.

The entry to the temple through the main gate, (western gateway) is limited only to woman devotees. Others should enter the temple through the northern gateway, near the Vadakke Pooraparambu, he said.

Barricades and temporary shelters have also been installed at the Thirumuttam.

Snacks and butter milk will be served to the devotees.

Drinking water will be provided by a Coimbatorebased company to the devotees. The rituals related to the Makam Thozhal will begin with the nirmalyam in the wee hours of Friday.

After completion of the morning rituals, including the Uchcha Siveli, the sanctum sanctorum will be closed by 12.30 p.m.

After completing the special decorations with the Thanka Golaka (golden replica of the Goddess Chottanikkara Amma), the sanctum sanctorum will be opened at 2.00 p.m. for Makam Thozhal.

Devotees can have darsan till 8.30 p.m. ?
