THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In tune with the LDF decision to launch a mass agitation against the UDF Government, the CPI announced its first round of protest here on Tuesday. A protest day will be observed in the state on August 10, CPI state secretary C K Chandrappan told a press conference here on Tuesday.

“There will be a protest march to the Secretariat on the day. CPI secretariat members and MLAs will take part in the dharna. Protest marches will be organised in front of all District Collectorates also,’’ said Chandrappan. He alleged that the UDF Government had sabotaged the land reforms Act by allowing 570 plantations to engage in other activities and exempt cashew plantations from land sealing limits. By introducing Public Private Participation in agriculture, excess land will be privatised. Chandrappan expressed the hope that the Congress won’t join hands with Mani to sabotage land reforms Act.

The CPI demanded that the government make slight modifications in the SEZ Act so that it is in tune with the

availability of land in Kerala. ‘’We will oppose if the State Government implements the SEZ Act as such in the state,’’ Chandrappan said.
