THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CBI court hearing the Kiliroor sex scandal case on Monday dismissed the plea of the parents of the victim for a reinvestigation into the case.

The court dismissed the plea after the parents, Surendran and Sreedevi stated before the court that they would not like to press their plea and sought to withdraw it citing that Raju Puzhangara, one of the joint petitioners and whose name was linked with a criminal case recently, may undermine the pleas in their petition.

Raju is wanted by the police on charges of allegedly threatening Kandararu Mohanararu. The court observed that it was not possible to withdraw the petition.

However, the judge pointed out that the court can dismiss the plea, following which the petitioners had the choice of filing a fresh petition.

Meanwhile, the CBI court criticised the prosecution after the prosecutor sought to grant 10 days leave for hearing, when two separate petitions seeking reinvestigation into the case came up for consideration. The court commented that it was impossible to grant such long spacing during ongoing trials, as it may affect the momentum of the proceedings.

Among the two petitions, one was filed jointly by the victim Shari’s parents  along with Kiliroor Action Committee convener Raju Puzhangara and the second was filed by counsel Neyyatinkara Nagaraj.

However, the court granted five days and posted the hearing for November 19.
