KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Saturday refused to stay further proceedings against Dr A K Unmesh, assistant professor at Thrissur Government Medical College, in connection with Soumya murder case.

A Thrissur fast track court had earlier directed the police to register a criminal case against the doctor for deposing falsely before it. Justice V K Mohanan admitted the petition but refused to stay the order. The court posted the case to November 25 for further hearing. During the trail in the Soumya murder case, Dr Unmesh had deposed before the court that it was he who conducted the postmortem of Soumya’s body, and not Dr Sherly Vasu, head of forensic department.

The court, while delivering the verdict in the murder case, had directed the police to register a case against Dr Unmesh for taking a stand that was favourable to the defence party.  The court also observed in the judgment that Dr Unmesh failed in his duty and breached service rules. Dr Unmesh is serving a suspension for his deposition.  The Thrissur fast track court had earlier found that Unmesh is guilty of giving false evidence while accepting the petition of Malayalavedi state president George Vattukulam.
